I am working on a split level remodel (Tri level with a basement or also called Quad) and can’t create plans for levels 0+1 and 2+3.  I tried creating custom plans through the Configurator but for choosing levels my choices are none, all or ground. When I generate the plans and send to Layout the clipboard shows the typical separate plan views for each level.  I then have to try and piece each level together like 0 (basement)+1 (ground level). Not very elegant or accurate.  I signed up for ConDoc office hours today to go over this, but it was cancelled at the last minute.

I just finished a project that had a big step down on the first floor (4′). I found if I adjusted the section plane, I could get the plan view to show how I wanted it. Just had to mess around a bit. Remodels always seem to have some quirk that need to be solved within condoc.

On your project, I would set up 2 floor levels (not 4) and adjust the section plane to suit (not worry to much about the condoc project set up).

Thanks for the tip Greg.  I had looked into that, but the adjoining floors are at 5’+ differential  (and sorry if I was not clear but I am combing two floors at the same time).  Trying to get both floors at that height difference creates other issues to work around with my kitchen and bathrooms.  I stumbled across a Sketchup Essentials tutorial that shows how to do multiple/simultaneous section cuts through grouping. This allows control width of the cut, and I should be able to do this at two different levels and achieve the desired result (of course outside of ConDoc).  This along with other ConDoc limitations/issues is becoming more frustrating and time consuming.

I understood the dilemma. it’s still too different in height with using 2D graphic objects…for cabinets, doors, stairs, and windows? Should just really just need to get a clean slice of the walls for it to work.

I was looking forward to office hours as well…had a couple of questions. Condoc is a beautiful thing when it goes smoothly. It’s a brain drain when it doesn’t!

I would try to get a good slice…then you may need extra 2D graphics.

I make extra 2D stuff all the time for things like masonry fireplaces, low walls (if there’s a cut height issue), and stairs. Just have to think about it in a different way from traditional drafting…
