Best way to copy and paste objects into model

I looking to know the best way to copy and paste objects from model to model when using the model organization guide.  For instance if each model file is created with the model organization guide is seems that the model organization file needs to be copied and pasted into the other file that has the same model organization system.  Then the pasted object needs to be exploded and then re-layered to get back to a single model organization guide?  Does this sound correct? I have a feeling there must be a simpler, faster and better way to do this.
