ParticipantI am confused about placing dimensions on a viewport. Is it best to place a dimension on the grouped viewport or in a model viewport?
Placing a dimension on the grouped viewport works fine as long as you make sure the correct dimension style is used. If I use a 1/8″ scale on a 1/4″ viewport the ConDoc dimension is twice the distance and not real world. If I’m dimensioning to a grouped viewport that is to a scale then why do a need a scaled dimension? I can use Auto scale.
What if I placed dimensions and then have to change scale of the viewport, will I have to match all the ConDoc dimensions to the matching scale dimension in the library?
What about scaled drawings in layout, how do the dimension styles from the ConDoc library work? When I change the scale of a scale drawing, the dimension scales automatically but the text does not.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

ParticipantI’ve been using ConDocs for a few years now and have completed multiple projects in ConDocs. For my workflow I always dimension over the exported scenes or the grouped scenes, (plans, elevations and sections) from ConDocs and even further back from Sketchup. I also apply this same approach to annotations. for any linework I create a scaled drawing to math the exported scenes scale over the scenes. Ensuring the correct scale is not difficult. the reason for scaled dimensions is for different scaled scenes on the same sheet.
If you’re having to change the scale of your plans, elevations or sections mid stream workflow then you’ll need to select dimensions and change the scale. As an old skool hand drafter we learned white space management because that was something you never did. Once you started your plan at a scale you were stuck with it. If you need too, cartoon your sheet out so you know what your putting on it and where so that this is not necessary
For scaled drawings in Layout, excluding scaled line work over plans, elevations or sections, I typically draw and annotate inside the scaled drawing. For example details. My detail box is always the same size on my detail sheets and resides as an unscaled group. When I start a new detail I set my scale for my detail by setting the scale for my detail box. If it doesn’t have an applied scale it doesn’t change size. draw and annotate in the scaled box.
Hope this helps
