Hatching Problem+Layout opacity question

I’ve been struggling with two problems:

1. When I set the layers for hatching in the Configurator, the layers that I select do not all show up as selected in the scene for the hatch.  If I manually change the layers (tags) in the scene and re-save it, things seem to work, although sometimes the scene switches back to the wrong tags on its own.
2. Some of my imports from the Scrapbook come through as opaque images, others are transparent, like a png.  I prefer the transparent version.  How to I get it every time?

Any thoughts on either of these questions?
